A lot of people might assume Paris is not for budget travelers.
As a college student who is always on a budget, I’m here to give to bless my fellow broke but wanderlust friends out.
Public transportation
Paris metro system is very efficient and pretty cheap. Also if you buy a bundle of tickets you can save a few more coins. I even took the metro into the city from the airport for only 10 euros! Also, another cheap alternative is Uber.
Free walking tours
I was so happy when I found out about free walking tours offered around Paris. I don’t mind wondering on my own buts it’s nice to have a local guide. A great way to meet other travelers.
The tours are free but you should definitely tip your guide around 5-10 euros. Most of the hostels will probably have information brochures on the free walking tours.
Free wine tasting
During one of my walking tours, I randomly saw I sign for free wine tasting. I quickly stop in my tracks save the location in google maps. I was thinking ok maybe a little shot glass sample. Nooo, the worker brings out three bottles of wine and a full-size wine glass. He explained each wine and then left me to sip. I’m not a wine drinker but it’s was a cool experience and best part it was free!
Free viewpoints
Paris has a few popular viewpoints. A lot of tourists really focus on the Eiffel Tower. Which is lovely but you can get an even better view for either free or cheaper.
– Sacré-Cœur
– Ballon GENERALI de Paris
– Galeries Lafayette and Printemps department stores
The last thing I will recommend is just asking locals for their suggestions. I believe traveling can be so much affordable when you try to get off the beaten path and emerging yourself into the local culture.
