Rooftops in Paris to rave about

After a day of pounding the pavement and touring Paris, what could be better than to unwind, take in the sunset, with a cocktail (or a glass of chilled Evian, a cool beer, fill in your drink of choice….) on a rooftop of the capital with a breathtaking view. Here’s our pick at hiphophostels of the best rooftops in Paris to make you feel tip top.

Le George – For a cuppa culture

This restaurant/café with futuristic, refined design is perched atop the eye-catching Pompidou center. In the middle of the lively Beaubourg quarter, its experimental menu and breathtaking view of the Eiffel tower, Notre Dame cathedral and Sacré-Coeur are all points in its favor. You can also just take a coffee-break while visiting the center’s modern art museum.
Le George – 19, rue Beaubourg – 75004 Paris. Metro: Rambuteau or Chatelet – tel : 01 44 78 47 99

Le Communion – For the musically inclined

This bar which was originally called the Nüba is on the roof of the Cité de la Mode et du Design. Conceptualized by the same partners who hold the annual electro festivals in France, music is the main course here. Latino, intimate on the inside and outside more electronic.  Every week they concoct a new theme accompanied by food stands and activities.
Also on the site of the Cité de la Mode is the Cafe Oz, a roof-top bar which is part of a chain with an Aussie accent. Chilled atmosphere, sports projected on giant HD screens, DJ, light food to accompany after-work cocktails, Australian beers and shooters.
Le Communion (Le Nüba) / Café Oz – 34, quai d’Austerlitz – 75013 Paris. Metro: Quai d’Austerlitz or Quai de la Gare – Tel : 01 76 77 34 85

Terrasse des Galeries Lafayette – Where you can rub shoulders with the best (and a bird or two)

Great if you have a day of shopping on your list or a visit to the Opéra neighborhood (see our blog about all that you can do here). Picture-postcard view, a great place just to soak in the beauty of the capital. There are lounge chairs that you can relax in without a fee or take a table at the Cube restaurant/café with its very chic menu where you find that warm goat cheese with honey you’ve been craving and quench your thirst on a glass of champagne! Monday through Saturday 9 :30 am to 7 :30 pm weather permitting
Terrasse des Galeries Lafayette – 40, boulevard Haussmann – 75009 Paris. Metro: Chaussée d’Antin-La Fayette

Le Point Ephémère – A great place to escape from the frenzy

Relax into the chilled pace of the quai de Valmy neighborhood as you overlook the Canal Saint Martin and enjoy brunch, cocktails and appetizing dishes made from local ingredients.  Wednesday to Sunday 11am to 4pm and from 6pm to 10pm.
Entry is from 200, quai de Valmy – 75010 Paris – 3rd floor. Metro: Chateau Landon

Le Luxor – Better than popcorn

Great refreshments in style for before or after a movie. This trendy bar/restaurant is housed in the oldest movie house in the capital (nearly 100 years old!) which reopened in 2013. Art deco neo-Egyptian decor. View of Sacré-Coeur and Barbès. Light gourmet fare. Try their cheese platter or sip on artisanal beers, fruit juices, organic wines.
