Visit the Montmartre of Amelie Poulain

Montmartre is one of the most visited places in Paris. This emblematic quarter is situated in the north of the capital, perched high up on a hill ; the « butte » Montmartre.

It is a romantic and picturesque neighborhood which has been immortalized in French cinema from Moulin Rouge to Amelie from Montmartre. If you’ve ever been there, you’ll agree that this quarter has a certain charm and charisma, a unique combination of its enigmatic history and a vivacious present which draws people to it and makes them want to come back again and again.

How to best take advantage of this magical atmosphere captured in so many films and works of art? hiphophostels has created a personalized tour, off the beaten track, for you of the sights inspired by the film, Amelie from Montmartre.

Tune into the original soundtrack composed by Yann Tiersen and let yourself resonate with the vibes of this upbeat romantic comedy!

Amélie Poulain

The butte Montmartre and Sacré-Coeur

The game of hide and seek between Amelie Poulain and her lover Nino takes place in a Montmartre, depicted in sepia colors, red and green, the colors which characterize the film. If the steps leading up to Sacré-Coeur daunt you, take the funicular up to the top, it only costs the price of a metro ticket.

Once at the top backed by the basilica of Sacré-Cœur, you will enjoy a panoramic view of the city!

Notice the numerous Art Deco touches which abound in the neighborhood. The green arabesque archways in front of the metro stations, the Wallace fountains, and the Morris columns are scrupulously maintained and restored as they are the very soul of Montmartre.

Be sure not to miss…

Once you are in Montmartre, take the time to discover other lovely sights which are part of the quarter’s charm. Here is a list of our favorite gems:

  • Place du Tertre. Even if it is a bit cliché with all the artists portraying Paris, it’s still a must-see! You can have your portrait done by one of the street artists which makes a nice souvenir to bring back.
  • The Man who walked through Walls, this statue of the hero of a Marcel Aymé book, « Le Passe-Muraille », or The Man Who Walked Through Walls, in English. The story of a man who could walk through walls.

Le Passe Muraille

  • The espace Dali, a showcase for the works of this master of surrealism. The famous warped watches, sculptures of elephants with elongated legs and many paintings by the artist with the upturned moustache. This venue dedicated to Salvador Dali and his wacky universe is getting updated spring 2018 with a boutique where one can purchase the original works of Salvador Dali.
